I graduated in 1995 with a BFA degree in printmaking and film from the San Francisco Art Institute. About 5 years later, after running my own coffee company and completing numerous commission pieces, I started working as a junior designer for a large corporation in Northern California. I was quickly promoted to Art Director and soon after to Creative Director, building and managing a team of six designers. After more than 5 years in that role I decided it was time to start my own design company. Some of my many design skills include brand identity, corporate presentations, concept development for corporate events, animation, illustration and package design.
I am also a multimedia artist who combines a variety of art forms such as printmaking, painting and photography to create my objects.
My work explores the complexities of the United States of America in parallel to my own personal experience within it. I approach each piece as if it were a still frame or snapshot in time. Taking inspiration from pop art, I combine bright colors and sharp lines with images of somber interiors, gas stations and manicured lawns, aiming to create moody yet humorous work.
My work evolved from a series of pop-inspired, silk screened metal panels, commissioned by a San Francisco company for their office walls. The panels were to be used as both art and magnet boards. It was while researching materials for these panels that I discovered epoxy coating, a two-part resin that, when combined, creates a protective, glass-like surface. It was the ideal finish for the panels and a new direction for my personal work for more than ten years. I am currently using a combination of acrylic paints and spray paint on canvas.
